Dick Pick & 16 bit OS in OC Innovation History

This is in answer to Theresa's question about my comment of Dick Pick's 16 bit minicomputer OS as being a signifcant OC innovation. It reflects the rich technology innovation history of OC and dates back to the early 1970's when OC was one of the centers of 16 minicomputer technology...that's pre PC, pre Apple I, pre internet. Companies like Microdata, Basic Four, General Automation, Computer Automation, Logic Automation all made 16 bit systems here in OC. Dick Pick was a software designer for Microdata, but Basic Four as I recall also used a variant of his OS as did a number of other companies including some of the 'Automations' and some based in the Boston area. As I recall there was at least one Pick emulation for PC's under DOS. It became a defacto standard for minicomputer business applications, but has been lost to history. There's probably some pc's in third world countries running a Pick OS emulation still. Anyway it's OC techno history trivia

Wow! Thank you for sharing, Peter. I didn't know that such an important piece of the beginnings of computers came out of Orange County. I look forward to learning more about these kinds of developments. Thanks.
